London Tube Shooting - Don't Forget The Cricket.
A grim time in London. Just hearing on news that a man has been shot by police at Stockwell tube station.
An eyewitness reports seeing armed police pursue a man onto a train, pushing him to the floor and then shooting him at least five times at close range, killing him.
London is in chaos but, fortunately for all of us, BBC Radio Five Live have got their priorities right and are breaking off coverage of this incident to update the cricket scores at Lords, where England are playing Australia.
Is there really anyone out there who cares about a cricket match with these terrible events taking place?

Surely you aren't suggesting that the Ashes updates should give way to glorifying the actions of a few inept, pathetic and inadequate islamic malcontents? This country has seen off all threats since 1066 and this threat will also be resolutely dealt with. the more they screw up the more the authorities will know. This scum are going to reap the whirlwind soon enough.
I do.
You could say that about Sky Sports News. When the attacks were happening two weeks ago, they kept going with their sports coverage... BECAUSE IT'S A SPORTS CHANNEL!! If you want to hear about the news, change the station to a news channel.

it takes seconds to report on a cricket score - we need some things to seem normal at this time - do you think eveything should stop becuase a suspect suicide bomber is shot?
If we let this pond life stops us enjoying our normal freedoms and interests they will have won. We should continue as normal, this rag tag bunch of 14th century losers are nothing compared to the challenges we faced from Hitler, Napolean, the Spanish Armada or even the IRA. If you want news, pick a news channel. In the cricket front Harmison got 5 for 43 yesterday and the Met apparently put 5 in 1 today.
Thanks to the 3 Anons. I did ask, didn't I? I agree that Sky Sports is a sports channel, but I was under the impression 5 Live is a news channel as well as sports - I was commenting on priorities.
Glad 1066 was invoked, that is certainly normal. As it happens, I don't give a shit about a suicide bomber being shot as such, just concerned about what is happening to ordinary people there who get caught up in incidents like the ones taking place.
I, and many others living in the far North, do not always have the luxury of changing to another channel. 5 Live is the only radio station we can pick up here - apart from Radio 4.
Have I set a record by getting 3 Anons in 6 minutes, or is it just 1 very angry Anon 3 times?
Ah, so it's called Ashes, is it, that funny game with the bats and little ball - I thought it was cricket. Silly me.

I think this was one of those situations where the newscasts become saturated with the same details, over and over, about a single event (like a suspected terrorist being shot). Gotta throw in some weather and sports to keep people from turning it off, especially if there aren't a whole lot of new details being released. For example, 6 hrs ago, the last update was that the guy was shot for wearing a thick coat in 70 degree weather.
Holy shit, people. In the US, we hear stories all the time about how there aren't guns in Britain, and their crime rate is so much lower for it!
Maybe, um, it's good that there aren't any guns there, because so far, I haven't read anything (and please let me know if I missed it) confirming that the guy had a bomb. Try some decaf, get a bomb-sniffing dog, and give the old trigger finger a break. I certainly hope this wasn't a 5-bullet mistake.

Thanks Sarkasmo. Sadly it was. The man who was shot had nothing to do with the investigation and manhunt.
