Met and Blair - Integrity Shot Dead.
Here we have another top figure showing a complete lack of decency. Sir Ian Blair says he will not resign. He is a man putting his own position above the life of an innocent man, and above the good name of the police force he heads.
Whatever comes out during a public enquiry - if there is one, and whatever the outcome of the IPCC investigations, the publicity and the revelations so far have done untold damage to the organization Blair leads. He knows the buck stops with him, and no amount of attempted cover up and spin now will limit the damage already done.
This public servant is acting in a way we have come to expect from politicians and business fatcats, who desperately try to hang on to their positions long after the point where they should have done the decent thing and fallen on their swords.
Too many of those who receive titles and top jobs in this country seem to regard the honour as something which puts them above others they are supposed to serve, and the arrogant Blair should remember that he is nothing but a glorified copper, accountable to the public who expect honestly and transparency from him and the officers below him.
