IRA Weapons All Destroyed - Paisley Not Amused.
The announcement by General John de Chastelain that the IRA arsenal has been destroyed is truly great news, and offers the chance of a huge leap forward for Northern Ireland.
The confirmation has been welcomed and accepted by everyone who has a modicum of sanity so, as I predicted the other day, the DUP and Ian Paisley don't believe anyone or anything.
"This afternoon the people of Northern Ireland watched a programme which illustrates more than ever the duplicity and dishonesty of the two governments and the IRA."
Paisley must be the most duplicitous man in Ireland, and his ridiculous demands for any disarming of the IRA to include their humiliation, by insisting that he have photographic proof to be made public, has rightly been resisted by people of reason.
The DUP have been put firmly on the back foot by this historic event, and Paisley, an old dinosaur long past his time of extinction, has only himself to blame. As events move on he is being left behind, struggling for survival like some prehistoric predatory beast with a brain too small for its size.
Loyalists are going to have to accept the inevitable. Demographics in Ulster are changing. The Catholic population is growing steadily and will soon lose its minority status. Republicans have recognized this and have chosen the ballot box rather than the gun as the means to further their cause.
