The Ingratitude Of Rescued Christians.
Since Norman Kember and the other peace activists were kidnapped in Iraq I have avoided mentioning them, partly because I think their actions in going to Baghdad were foolish in the extreme and their aims, however worthy, doomed to failure, and partly because their abduction was a relatively unimportant incident in a country where far worse atrocities are happening every day.
Simply, I had no sympathy for them, unlike others kidnapped and executed who were genuinely doing something practical and useful for the Iraqi people.
In the statements released on the news, any sort of thanks from the three to the forces who rescued them has been glaring in its absence, and has now led to General Sir Mike Jackson, the head of the British Army, to comment that he is “saddened that there doesn’t seem to have been a note of gratitude for the soldiers who risked their lives to save those lives”.
Unfortunately this lack of decency and common manners by Kember and the others is not surprising.
They're Christians.
Hypocritical, selfish, superior, holier-than-thou bampots and wazzocks who would have us all believe they were saved by God, not people.
And any expression of thanks now, after being reminded, will be way too late and seen for what it is - hollow and insincere in a uniquely Christian sort of way.
---------------------------
And reports that the released hostages have refused to help their rescuers is nothing short of disgusting.

I get the feeling you are opposed to the war. So am I. What exactly are we doing to voice our opposition? Well, we demonstrate, we blog...big deal. Kember and his pals actually went to Irak to voice their opposition. So, they are christians? I'm not, but I respect them for trying to act out what their religion apparently preaches, unlike those supposedly god-fearing people in Washington.
Do you actually know what Kember&co did in Irak? I don't, but I have a strong feeling it was more than just saying 'make love not war'!

Of course I am opposed to the war, Jez.
You ask what they were doing?
The CPT website says what they were doing:
"committed to reducing violence by "Getting in the way", being a witness to the the gospel of peace and nonviolence in violent ..."
Really fuckin' useful!
While I am against the war, against the troops being there, and cannot understand why anyone is daft enough to join the armed forces in the first place, the fact is they are there, not at their own request, and the irresponsible risking of their lives has already been achieved perfectly successfully by the real villians who sent them - governments, politicians - without naive religious fruitcakes "getting in the way" to satisfy their self-righteous egos, and having to be pulled out at the risk of others lives.
If Kember and his pals want to "get in the way," it's politicians they should be targeting, in the US and UK.
That would be useful, but not grand enough for these sanctimonious plaster saints.
