Eilan Donan Not In Lights.
A few weeks back, late on a Saturday night, I was taking a look at the news on the internet and discovered that a Swiss artist was in Scotland to light up Eilan Donan Castle with projected images at various prearranged times over the weekend.
Noting that the guy was to put on his last display for an hour before dawn on Sunday, I decided on the spur of the moment to head up to Dornie on the west coast to shoot a few photos of the spectacle, the last chance I would have, as said artist was presumably intending to naff off back to his home country after his nocturnal activities with the light switch.
Out the door inside the hour, on the motorbike, armed with cameras, tripod, flask and tea-bags, I first had to go 10 miles in the opposite direction to fill up the bike, before coming 10 miles back, past my house, and heading west for the 60 or so miles to Eilan Donan.
Not a fast run in the middle of the night, with narrow twisting roads inhabited only by deer, and of course it rained.
Then on the high pass through Glen Shiel it bloody SNOWED!
All par for the course in Highland Scotland so, freezing my ass off, hands numb, I persevered and reached my destination in plenty time, had a cup of strong tea, sorted out the cameras and waited for the action.
Of course it didn't happen!
Being a Saturday night/Sunday morning on the west coast of Scotland the "dedicated artist" no doubt got himself pissed in the nearest village bar then failed to wake up till midday Tuesday.
Swiss artists should stick to blowing up cuckoo clocks or something.
Of course, as I was there I shot my photographs anyway, because Eilan Donan doesn't really need light shows put on by a second rate asshole - it always look great.
Early Morning, Eilan Donan Castle.

And on the road home - still not 6am.

Thanks Byronb. Hoping to catch up on your pages and others soon. Sorry I haven't looked in for so long.
Yeah, those are gorgeous. And I *really* want a motorbike, even if it's just a moped, but the drivers in Cincinnati are evil and would shoot me or run over me or something. Maybe once we get to Canada...*sigh*
It snowed? In June? Wow, I want to live there. We'll be in southern Canada, so the summers aren't all that different from Cincinnati, but I guess if I want colder weather we can just keep heading north, yes? That's why we call it the Great White North.
Motorbikes aren't very useful in the snow, though, are they? Or do you just ride in it anyway and get used to it?

Thanks Sarkasmo. It wasn't quite june, the piccies were taken 20th May, but it still shouldn't have snowed then.
Motorbikes are not good for the health in snow, but the huge amounts of salt they put on the roads here to combat the snow and ice wrecks a bike in one winter anyway.

Definitely worth the effort. Haunting pictures. Snow on May 20? I've been running the A/C since February. My thin, tropical blood would just freeze up right in my veins.
Ahhhhhhh one of my favourite places on the west coast - Have been over the hill to Glenelg and Arnisdale?
