Eilan Donan Not In Lights.

A few weeks back, late on a Saturday night, I was taking a look at the news on the internet and discovered that a Swiss artist was in Scotland to light up Eilan Donan Castle with projected images at various prearranged times over the weekend.

Noting that the guy was to put on his last display for an hour before dawn on Sunday, I decided on the spur of the moment to head up to Dornie on the west coast to shoot a few photos of the spectacle, the last chance I would have, as said artist was presumably intending to naff off back to his home country after his nocturnal activities with the light switch.

Out the door inside the hour, on the motorbike, armed with cameras, tripod, flask and tea-bags, I first had to go 10 miles in the opposite direction to fill up the bike, before coming 10 miles back, past my house, and heading west for the 60 or so miles to Eilan Donan.

Not a fast run in the middle of the night, with narrow twisting roads inhabited only by deer, and of course it rained.

Then on the high pass through Glen Shiel it bloody SNOWED!

All par for the course in Highland Scotland so, freezing my ass off, hands numb, I persevered and reached my destination in plenty time, had a cup of strong tea, sorted out the cameras and waited for the action.

Of course it didn't happen!

Being a Saturday night/Sunday morning on the west coast of Scotland the "dedicated artist" no doubt got himself pissed in the nearest village bar then failed to wake up till midday Tuesday.

Swiss artists should stick to blowing up cuckoo clocks or something.

Of course, as I was there I shot my photographs anyway, because Eilan Donan doesn't really need light shows put on by a second rate asshole - it always look great.

Early Morning, Eilan Donan Castle.
