Well, I also used to own a Geo Metro, which I expect is probably what they were driving, but I guess I was more impressed by these kids' ability to steal a whole bus and not some tiny, fiberglass, dishwasher-safe, 3-cylinder matchbox car.

The Metro the British kids died in is a car, a very small one.
The Mini Metro - similar in size to the original British Mini and never designed to carry 5 people.

France doesn't have riots. They have revolutions!

Cincinnati had riots a few years ago for almost the same reason - the French kids died because they accidentally electrocuted themselves while hiding from a cop; the Cincinnati kid got shot by a cop. Our riots only lasted a couple of weeks, and were confined to mostly poor downtown neighborhoods. Reading about the riots in France, seeing that they've spread to - what, 300 towns now? Sheesh, that's scary.

But I digress. You're right, I hadn't heard about the busload of kids in E Sussex.
